Nathalie Emmanuel

 Nathalie Joanne Emmanuel (born 2 March 1989) is an English actress. Emmanuel began her acting career in theatre in the late 1990s when she began to be cast in different West End productions such as the musical The Lion King. She began her acting career in 2006 , playing Sasha Valentine, a soap opera. After that she was cast in numerous British TV shows which included the sequel Maze Runner. Her mother is Dominican, as is her father, who is of half-Saint Lucian and half English descent. There is an older sister. Emmanuel recalled how her mother was the first to discover her interest in acting when she was a student at St Hilda's School. It was closed in 2014. The Westcliff High School For Girls grammar school was the next to follow. She explained that she first noticed her passion for acting at the age of three years old. Her mother advised her to enroll in dancing, singing, as well as acting classes. In the West End production of The Lion King Young Nala played the character of Young Nala. In the following year she was made a part in Game of Thrones as Missandei, Daenerys Targaryen’s interpreter. She revealed to Jimmy Kimmel that she learned about the role when she was working as an assistant at a clothing shop. Emmanuel was promoted to an official cast member on the show in the year 2015. Missandei, the only prominent female character in the show was a woman-of-colour. The scene in which she died in chains was not well-liked by fans. The scene was also considered an example of evasion and invoked images of slavery. Emmanuel later stated to The Guardian: The response to her death was overwhelming because she was not alone. I believe that many people who felt marginalized or excluded loved Missandei and felt that they were represented by her. The people were devastated when she died and died so tragically. That's how they're going to take the one woman of colour
